About the Divya Desam Yatra
The 108 Divya Desams are the Vishnu temples sung in the Tamil hymns of the twelve Alvar saints, collected in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham. Most are in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, with a few in northern India and two that tradition places beyond the earthly world.
Devotees usually visit them in groups by region over many journeys — around Kanchipuram, around Kumbakonam and Srirangam, the Kerala Divya Desams, and so on. Srirangam is counted first among them.
The usual route
- Srirangam — Ranganathaswamy (the first Divya Desam)
- Kanchipuram region — Varadharaja Perumal and others
- Chennai — Parthasarathy, Triplicane
- Kerala — Padmanabhaswamy, Thirunavaya, Aranmula and others
- Tirumala — Venkateswara
Routes vary by operator and starting city. Opening dates, timings and rules change — confirm with the temple or the official portal before you travel.
