About the Puri, Konark and Bhubaneswar

The Odisha golden triangle combines one of the Char Dham — the Jagannath temple at Puri — with the 13th-century Sun Temple at Konark, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Bhubaneswar, the 'temple city', crowned by the Lingaraja temple.

All three lie within about an hour or two of one another, so a relaxed three- or four-day trip covers them, with Chilika lake and Dhauli nearby.

The usual route

  1. Bhubaneswar — Lingaraja and the old temple town
  2. Konark — Sun Temple (ASI monument)
  3. Puri — Jagannath darshan and the beach

Routes vary by operator and starting city. Opening dates, timings and rules change — confirm with the temple or the official portal before you travel.

When to go

October–March is the most comfortable; Rath Yatra (June–July) is the great festival of Puri.

Practical tips

  • Entry to the Jagannath temple is restricted to Hindus, as the temple notifies; phones and leather items are not allowed inside.
  • Rath Yatra brings huge crowds — book months ahead.
  • Konark is a monument with an ASI ticket and no worship in the sanctum.
